Don’t miss a visit to the centre de cultura contemporània in barcelona

With easy access to the masterworks of Gaudí and Picasso, contemporary creative arts are often overlooked by travelers visiting Barcelona. However, the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) is a must during your trip to the creative capital. Its forward-thinking, modern-day work brings a new dimension to the art world you don’t want to miss.

Conveniently located in the Gothic Quarter, it’s easy to swing by the CCCB and see its latest, thought-provoking exhibit on display. Here’s what to expect during your visit.

The center

The CCCB has expanded in recent years. It’s now a spacious center that houses a theatre, auditorium, bookstore, bar and lecture rooms. It takes up part of the historic Casa de Caritat (Charity House), built in the early 1800s. The almshouse ceased operation in 1957 after a long history of growth and self-sufficiency. Today the CCCB occupies the original structure.

Exhibits & activities

The center maintains a certain freshness with new, exciting exhibits that don’t stick around for too long. Notable past and ongoing exhibitions include the “Bjork Digital” virtual reality exhibition and “Big Bang Data,” an in-depth look at the data explosion of the modern day.
The center has a full schedule of events and activities, including live music, debates, workshops, audiovisuals and the performing arts – and that’s just a short list of what’s going on at the CCCB. See what’s on the calendar during your stay here.
